One of the life lessons my father taught me as a kid was, "son, if you don't know how something works, you can't fix it when it breaks." As I got older, I began to realize that simple truth can be universally applied to many different aspects of life.

Especially as it relates to marriage.

When it comes to relationships, most of our world today is surrounded in the shrapnel of broken promises and unmet expectations because we do not understand how God designed them to work. If we are not careful, our marriages can become the victims of our sin and innate inability to love people without conditions.

If you stop and think about it, almost all of your relationships are based on some type of conditional love.

In fact, the staggering statistics regarding divorce from a global worldview lay the foundation of evidence that this is true in more ways than one.

Approximately 4-5 million people get married in the US every year and 42-52% will end in divorce. For first-time married couples the rate is 35-50%. For second time marriages the rate increases to 60% (6 out of 10), and it jumps to 70%+ (7 out of 10) for marriages after the second. What in the world is happening to our families?
